Rolex Datejust 41 Wimbledon

When I heard that this Rolex Datejust 41 (model 126334) was available for me at The Hour Glass on Queen Street earlier this year, I went in to get it right away; it was my second watch purchase of the year 2021.

If you don't know about watches, let me explain this first. You cannot walk into the boutique with money and buy any Rolex watch you want. There are many factors on why there is a massive shortage of Rolex watches but that's for another topic. Most people complain and hate Rolex because it is so hard to get and since the removal of the waiting list, getting a Rolex watch seems almost impossible. But I personally enjoy this because it not only amplifies the brand power of Rolex (which is my favourite watch brand) but it is fun hunting for the model you want.

Because of the shortage in supply, many Rolex watches come with a lot of premium - meaning, the second-hand Rolex watches cost much more than the retail price. As soon as you walk out of the dealer, you are essentially making money.

Rolex Datejust 41 Wimbledon with fluted bezel and Oyster bracelet

Rolex Datejust is the most iconic Rolex watch, period - some say it's the Submariner but that's only because the stainless sports watches became trendy recently. Datejust comes in countless number of combinations: different bracelet and bezel options, materials (steel, yellow gold, etc.) variety of dial colours and indices designs.

Unfortunately, most of the Datejust models do not come with a premium apart from a few exceptions. This pictured Datejust 41 in a slate dial, fluted bezel and Oyster bracelet is one of the most sought-after Datejust combinations, along with the blue and white dial Arabic indices (all with fluted bezel).

This watch is called "Wimbledon" because the Roman markers' surroundings are painted in bright green colour, resembling grass - a nod to the grass on the Wimbledon fields. Despite Rolex never using the name "Wimbledon" to promote this particular dial, Rolex is the official timekeeper of the Wimbledon tournament, promoting this particular model during the period.

In addition, Roger Federer won the Wimbleton tournament, he was wearing a Rolex watch with this exact dial.

Rolex Datejust watch under the sunlight

This Datejust is one of the watches I wear the most currently. I deliberately got it in an Oyster bracelet so it gives a more sporty look but at the same time, it can look elegant if it needs to be.

It is equipped with the new Calibre 3235 movement with a power reserve of 70 hours. It is COSC certified with -2/+2 sec/day accuracy and has a 100m water resistance rating.

The Rolex crown on the dial, hands and the fluted bezel are made with white gold; the Roman indices are also in white gold but painted over with black, while the surrounding is painted green. Honestly, this watch is absolutely amazing, especially under the sunlight because the sunburst dial and the green colours (from the indices) change colours, depending on the lighting intensity.
