Noodles are a staple in many Asian dishes and there are many eateries in Auckland City serving up a wide variety of noodle dishes that will satisfy any craving.
From classic ramen to hand-pulled noodles, this article will take you on a quick tour of the top noodle dishes to try in Auckland City.
I have also shared my personal recommendation(s) from each place; this list is not in a particular order.
1. Dumpling Station
One of my favourite noodle places in Newmarket - I have taken many of my friends here and they all loved it. Serving fresh hand-shaven noodles, the noodle texture is one of the best I have had!
My personal favourite is Pork Noodles with Chilli and Hot Pepper; it is not as spicy as you think and the amount of juicy, grilled pork is very generous. If there is a small group of you there, perhaps also order some lamb skewers, too.
2. Tian Fu Noodles
Tian Fu Noodles always seem to be mentioned whenever people talk about "Best Noodles in Auckland" and I can see why. There are four types of noodles to choose from: wheat, shaved, rice and kumara but the shaved noodle is by far the most popular.
Their DanDan noodle soup is a good choice if you are visiting for the first time. If you are looking to try something a little different, try their Noodle soup with pork intestines. They have five spicy levels available and a little warning, level two Mild (Tiny, Mild, Medium, Hot, Extra Hot available) is still quite spicy.
3. King Made Noodles
Chewy and delicious hand-pulled noodles where you can pick from six different noodle sizes (thin to extra thick), King Made Noodles offer a small yet flavour-packed menu.
My favourite is the Braised Beef Noodle Soup - I usually go for the "3" noodle thickness (1 to 6, the higher the number, the thicker it is) but sometimes, their thickest, "6" as well.
4. Kang Chon Restaurant
Korean-Chinese food is actually Korean food with some elements inspired by Chinese cuisine; a very popular amongst Koreans, Kang Chon in Mount Eden is one of the best in Auckland.
I recommend their Samseon Jjamppong, which is a spicy seafood noodle soup; the portion is big and is packed with a variety of seafood.
5. Biang Biang City
Possibly one of the most famous hand-pulled noodle houses in Auckland, Biang Biang's thick noodles soak up all the sauce/oil, giving a chewy, flavour-packed bite each time.
Either try their Biang Biang noodle with spicy beef or spicy lamb; they are not that spicy so you will be okay.
6. Chongqing Noodles
There are so many good noodle places on Dominion Road and Chongqing Noodles is one of them.
When you visit for the first time, you may be overwhelmed by their extensive menu with so many choices of noodles. My favourite is their Pork Belly Noodles - I highly recommend them!
7. Eden Noodles Cafe
Having been one of Auckland's cheap eats icons for years, Eden Noodles Cafe recently opened in Newmarket as well.; I don't have to explain too much about this place because there are so many articles about this place you can read about.
My recommendations are Noodles with spicy beef (soup/thick noodles) and DanDan Noodles.
8. Tanpopo Ramen
Tanpopo Ramen located on Anzac Avenue in Auckland CBD is a popular destination for everyone - from workers nearby to students. This busy ramen shop offers traditional Japanese ramen.
My favourite is the Shoyu Ramen, which is a soy sauce base soup.
9. Xi'an Food Bar
Xi'an Food Bar on Anzac Avenue is a popular eatery serving authentic and delicious Xi'an cuisine; their noodles are made fresh on-site and have many options available on the menu.
A must-try dish here is the Hand-pulled Noodles with Cumin Lamb, which is both tasty and affordable.
10. Selera
Selera has always been a very popular place for laksa. With more Malaysian restaurants opening in the last couple of years, many people debate if Selera is still the best in town - that is very subjective and we will never get the right answer. However, their food is still good - that is why they are so busy every day.
My favourite is the seafood laksa.
