Since the Christchurch earthquake in 2010 (and 2011), Riccarton has become the "second City Central", booming with more businesses opening in the area. However, there weren't any notable cafes in the area - the closest ones being the Addington Coffee Co-op and the ones in the City Centre.
In the last couple of years though similar to Auckland, the cafe scene in Christchurch also has improved dramatically. Park Ranger is one of the cafes that appeared then and now it is considered one of the local's favourite cafes.
Found on the corner of Riccarton Road and Rimu Street, the cafe's dark green building can be easily spotted. When you enter, you will see the warm and cosy interior welcoming you - plus many customers who are already inside sipping good coffee.
As you walk towards the counter, Park Ranger's cabinet food will be displayed - which all looks amazing. My personal favourite is their cinnamon bun; during my recent trip in September, I had it many times.
They use the "Ranger" coffee blend roasted by Embassy Coffee, which is also located in Christchurch.
The coffee is very smooth with chocolate, caramel and slight citrus notes - even if you add an extra shot (or two) of espresso, it still tastes amazing.
They also offer delicious food also - eating here feels like you are at a farmhouse out in the rural area.
I highly recommend their Egg Benedict with house-made rosti or the Park Waffle.
There are plenty of seats near the windows so unless you are visiting in a big group, you don't need to book a table in advance during the week.
